‘Mexican’ Shawarmas

Hello and Salam lovely people! I hope you all are staying safe and healthy. It feels like every year when Ramadan comes around, I get reminded of the good ol’ recipes we used to have back in my childhood.

A few days ago, I was talking to my bhabi when she mentioned making Mexican shawarmas and it got me craving these yummy sandwiches. So I made these toasted shawarmas last night – don’t let the bad picture fool you (it was one minute to iftar!) they were actually really really delicious, all three kids went to grab the last one 😂

Back in Dubai we used to get ‘Mexican’ shawarmas – which are not really Mexican so not sure how they got to be called that, maybe the use of tortillas 🤷. Instead of pita they use tortillas, put in spicy sauce + fries, and toast it before serving.

Here’s how to make them :

Step 1 : I used my basic regular shawarma recipe . Replace the pita with tortillas, and added baked fries to the rest of the veggies/filling ingredients. Make tahini sauce.

Step 2 : Then I made a spicy sauce  – mix together 3 tbsp mayo, 1 garlic clove, 1 heaped tsp Sriracha, squirt of lemon juice.  Drizzle on top of meat and veg and roll into a wrap.

Step 3 : Bake it for 7 minutes at 350F, or toast on the stove/grill pan just before serving for a superb #unfriediftar. Enjoy!
